The theme of the scene I designed is based on the tomb-raiding genre found in Chinese novels, with a strong presence of national cultural elements. During my research, I came across many images and original illustrations from novels about tomb-raiding, which left me deeply inspired. As I worked on the scene design, I gained a lot of creative ideas. I need to incorporate many Chinese elements to enrich my scene. For the visual focus, I applied the techniques taught by my teacher, placing the key elements at the center of attention.

In the process of designing the scene, I have been refining the objects within it. I have looked at a lot of other people’s 2D artwork for reference. I construct the needed elements on my simple white photo to enrich my scene. I want my scene to have both storytelling and cinematic qualities. During the scene setup, I have not forgotten that the eyeball soup is the main subject, so I set the brightest light on the table to highlight the subject. To enrich the scene, I added many hanging fabrics to create more visual impact. The biggest challenge I faced during modeling was the lack of skill in choosing materials. It was hard to find the right ones, but through trial and error, I slowly learned how to select the materials.

I am very satisfied with the final render. I think it truly reflects Chinese history and culture. What I am most satisfied with are the two stone lanterns in front of the river; they are very interesting.
